CEILING INSULATION MEASURE REQUIREMENTS

Adding insulation in your attic is an effective way to cut your heating and cooling bills.

You could save you as much as 20-30% on your heating and cooling cost by insulating your attic!

Requirements

  • Home has not been done under the program in the last 10 years
  • Prefer homes that are all electric (no gas bill) but does not disqualify you if your home is not all electric
  • Home must be in good repair - no roof leaks, weak ceilings
  • Attic must be clear of any storage items
  • No type of remodel in progress

NO COST TO YOU: If the above requirements are met and you have 1 inch or less of existing insulation AND meet the self certification form requirements.

FEE BASED If the above requirements are NOT met and/or the self certification form requirements are not met, we can still provide these energy saving services for a fee.

COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHTS & LOW-FLOW SHOWERHEADS

Using compact fluorescent bulbs can make it possible to have the same light as incandescent bulbs but at one-third the cost.

Compact fluorescents cost more, but they save enough energy to pay for themselves many times over the period of their life expectancy.

In order to qualify for the energy saving light bulbs and water saving showerheads at NO COST, we have to pass at least one major measure* (infiltration, duct or ceiling insulation) AND the self certification form has to be met.  Additionally, the water heater must be electric to install the water saving showerheads.  Otherwise we can install energy saving light bulbs and water saving showerheads for a fee.

*Duct passes based on PUCT program requirements

*Infiltration based on PUCT program requirements.

*Ceiling insulation passes when we blow ceiling insulation up to an R-30 value.

Eligibility is determined when you call to placed on the list and sign that you meet the requirements of the self certification form during our visit.  The light bulbs and shower heads are installed at NO COST when the crew comes to your home AND passes a major measure and you have signed the self certification form.  Again your water heater has to be electric for us to install shower heads.

Texas New Mexico Power does not offer light bulbs or shower heads under their program even if the self certification form is met.
Also note there are certain circumstances that prevent us from installing Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs and water saving shower heads due to available funding in the program or from results of our initial testing.

Please note: We normally try to do the duct and infiltration (if qualify) first and then the ceiling insulation (if qualify). It is our sole discretion to schedule homes based on the factors listed above and any other factors that may arise. For any subsidized or no cost services we do, an inspector from the utility may contact you to set up an appointment to inspect our work. About 10% of our work is inspected by the utilities.

We are bound by certain guidelines set forth by the utility. We also have our own guidelines in order to keep this program cost effective. These guidelines change as the utilities change their guidelines and as we continually evaluate the cost effectiveness in keeping these programs at subsidized/no cost. Our goal is to continue to follow the utility guidelines in these programs while keeping these programs at subsidized or at no cost to the homeowner.
